Once we become parents, we learn the hard way that we have to tote around all kinds of baby items. Diapers, bottles, a change of clothes, medicine, first aid kit, the list goes on and on and on. Let’s not even mention the mountain of toys that we tote with us all too often to keep our little one’s minds stimulated and occupied! Sometimes, we even over pack our diaper bags, not wanting to leave anything behind. So, rather then piling everything into the car every time that you need to go to the grocery store, why not just pack the essentials?
One item that has to go with you everywhere you and your baby go are diapers. Whether you prefer cloth diapers or disposable, it’s one item that inevitably has to be with you. But, the good news is that you don’t have to pack the whole package of diapers! The best thing to do is to figure out how long you are going to be out, and how often you change your child’s diaper. That way you can calculate how many diapers to bring, give or take one or two extra in case of the unexpected.
When it comes to wipes, many brands of today make smaller “travel packs” that fit neatly into the diaper bag and don’t take up nearly as much room as the larger packs. The last thing you’ll want to bring to change your child is an extra set of clothing, but again, you don’t need to empty out your child’s drawers to go out. Pick out one outfit in case of any spills or accidents, and one pair of pajamas.
Toys, Toys Everywhere!
Once you have a baby, you can’t get away from toys, they’re practically everywhere! But, that doesn’t mean you have to take half of your child’s toy collection whenever you go somewhere! If your child is still an infant, you can pick out a few toys you think he or she will like and pack them in the bag. If your child is a toddler, then you can always ask them to pick out two of their favorite toys to bring with them.
As parents, we’re always afraid that our child will be hungry and we’ll be stuck without anything to feed them, so we all tend to over-pack the bag a little bit, filling it with Cheerios, fruit puffs, juice cups, bottles, anything we can think of. There are a multitude of healthy snacks that are good for baby and portable, too. Cheerios, for example can easily be put into a sandwich bag, and tucked neatly away into the diaper bag.
The name of the game is really just minimizing what you take with you. By doing this, you’ll not only save space, but also time packing, as well!
